Ethics for the Virginia Surveyor & Early Surveying Techniques

In recent years surveyors have increasingly needed to understand and operate under a standard of ethics. Working closely with other professions operating under their own unique standard of ethics, it's important that surveyors understand what their code of ethics is and the differences between those that other professions adhere to. The workshop will begin with a review of ethical guidelines that surveyors are expected to adhere to. After a discussion of the history of ethics for surveyors and an examination of modern ethical guidelines for surveyors, ethical guidelines for several other professions will be examined with an eye towards areas of commonality as well as areas of conflict. Rounding out the workshop will be an examination of early surveying techniques and the evolution of surveying equipment and calculating devices.

Instructor: David Ingram is a licensed surveyor, co-owner of Ingram-Hagen & Co., PLC located in Mt. Crawford, VA, and former Director of the National Surveying Museum, Member of Monticello Chapter of VAS and current Secretary-Treasurer of the Surveyor's Foundation.
